The system-on-a-chip drivers were a closed binary blob used "as is"... until now, so now you can be able to program it at low level :-D

I was thinking that port PyMite to the raw rapsberry would be a VERY interesting project... :-P Unluckily I don't have one :-(

Where should I send one?

Are you willingly to give me a Rapsberry Pi? :-)

Yes, sure. It's worth at least trying porting pymite to it no?

Yes, of course. At least it seems an interesting project... :-) The most complicated part will be related with the drivers.

Sent from my Android cell phone, please forgive the lack of format on the text, and my fat thumbs :-P

Not sure what the correct protocol to exchange personal info is  but if you email me on my personal address a physical address (hopefully in EU) I will be able to order one for you (I hope!)

I don't think it is as simple as sending a Raspberry PI. An HD TV or monitor is needed, plus a USB mouse and keyboard also a 750ma or 1A USB power adapter and an HDMI cable.

You will need to download the Linux image and follow the instructions to use dd to put the image on an SD card (4 gig minimum) from your laptop. Go here for all the info that you would ever need about the RPI http://www.raspberrypi.org/.

The RPI is not very expensive about $35 US it's the other stuff if you don't already have access to them that will cost you. If I can be of further assistance let me know.

All noted Carl and thanks for offering your assistance re Raspberry Pi.

Unfortunately I do not have the time to experiment myself (though I will get a couple just to support the raspberry cause) so currently I get my 'geek fix' by reading and following what other people are doing.

Cheers

I don't have too much time at this moment to do this, at least until
summer, but if this is not a problem I would take a look on it then if
you want to send me it... :-)

For those that are not familiar with the Raspberry PI (RPI), it is a credit card size computer that runs an ARM processor and a full Linux install can be loaded on it. It comes with the Python standard C implementation for both Python 2.7.3 and 3.2. So I don't know if getting p14p to work on it makes a lot of sense other than having more choices with the Python version you would want to use.

This is a full computer with GUI and everything. Any version of Python installed on the RPI would also need a GPIO module that would allow you to access the GPIO pins on the RPI.

The idea here is make PyMite to run on the barenaked Rapsberry without
an OS... ;-)

Hum, didn't think of that. That would be a neat idea. There are a few different versions of the RPI that were released and they all have slightly different GPIO pins available. To get p14p to work on it would be a bit of a challenge, but would still be a good idea.

My own time, like yours, is somewhat limited, but I would be willing to help when you get around to it yourself. I currently have two RPIs both are Version Bs, but one is a rev 1 and the other is a rev 2. They have, as I said, slightly different GPIO pins. I use the rev 1 to experiment with and the rev 2 as an XBMC server for my TV. Only the rev 2s are available now and they have 512 megs of memory instead of 256 megs. Price for both revs is the same however.

Yes it is a very good idea (but probably quite challenging).

Piranna, I would be happy to sent it to you and you can look into it whenever you have the time. The way I see it, it would be a shame if you end up wanting/having the time to give it a try and not being able to do so because you do not have access to the hardware.

Cheers
