You can use store bought stock for a super quick/easy version, but for the most authentic flavour I highly recommend using Asian-style homemade stock for this one (like in the recipe here). Store bought stock tends to have a distinctly different flavour that will affect the flavour of the rice.
I also like to use a peeled & seeded cucumber, sliced into chunks, in the soup, in place of the winter melon, which is not always easy to find. For me, the soup is necessary for the true culinary experience of khao mun gai ?

This was so delicious and easy to make. It was our first time trying japchae. I accidentally ordered sweet potato noodles online when I placed an order with our Asian market which is an hour away. I thought I was buying shirataki noodles for hot pot. I googled what I should do with them and japchae was the answer. Other recipes did seem intimidating. Thank you for making this easy for us! I've just started thinking of a Gothicy type project earlier today as it happens...so the question being (I'm thinking probably wall hanging version) is it possible to make these strip LEDs flicker? I'm thinking of Demons nd Goblins style boarder....which will be cast in resin, so will want parts of that to flicker which is easy enough....but wd possibly look even better if i could get the flicker to descend back through the mirror flickery style....?
* this easy treacle adds a lovely flavour, with more depth than using just golden syrup. Simply melt together equal quantities of golden syrup and muscovado (light or dark!) and let is just simmer gently for a few moments, stirring the mixture to ensure the sugar has dissolved. Leave this gorgeously sticky mass to cool. You can also do this in the microwave.

This is my go-to recipe whenever I crave some spring onion pancakes and need a quick fix. It's such an easy & straightforward recipe that always produces great and tasty pancakes for me. I sometimes change it up a bit using regular or red onions when I don't have any spring onions, or I'll add a bit of sesame oil to the batter. The pancakes are usually eaten for breakfast or brunch with some scrambled tofu or fried/braised seitan/wheat gluten. Sometimes I've had the pancakes as a side dish with my evening meal, or simply eaten them as a snack. They're so versatile with how you choose to eat them.
