Dear CLIMLISTers,
As you may know Python is a free, open-source language in which many
computing and visualization tools are being developed. It is a very
credible alternative to Matlab, GrADS, Ferret, NCL, etc, thanks to its
ability to phagocyte other languages (e.g. as PyNGL).

There are many Python resources for scientists, and many specific
Python packages for atmospheric and oceanic scientists, but (as far
as we know), there is no single site that tries to show atmospheric
and oceanic sciences (AOS) newcomers to Python what is available,
and helps update experienced users as to the cutting-edge of using
Python in AOS. A colleague is setting up a website and mailing list to
