In my point of view the purpose of the group is to establish a search
base / forum for existing and new python projects which can be used in
meteorology, maybe oceanography, etc...

The group was created because some small open source python software
projects concerning meteorology file-formats have started to pop up on
google-code. For example, I put my python wrapper for the ecmwf bufr
library on google-code only to find out that there were two other
similar projects.

My own hope is to get a better overview on what python software is
available in this area and how mature it is, and also what people are
expecting to start up.

If someone can come up with a good and general 'purpose text' please
email it to me and I'll paste it in group heading right away :-) .

I think that more and more people are looking to python for these kind
of applications so I hope it will be an active group.

Best regards

Rune
