Querying instruments during measurement?

Hi,

This library has been super helpful for my test set up, but I am having a small problem. I am trying to get some responses from an instrument (Agilent 34411A Multimeter) while it is conducting measurements. The instrument programming manual explicitly indicates that this is possible (e.g. DATA:COUNT?), but I can't get it to work. The commands work perfectly if I ask after the measurement completes, but time out if I ask while measuring. Am I configuring something in USBTMC incorrectly?
