Hello,

Linux kernel >= 5.4 has native support for J1939 sockets, as described here: https://www.kernel.org/doc/html/latest/networking/j1939.html.  I use socketCAN for ECU testing and it would be incredibly helpful to be able to leverage J1939 sockets with socketCAN.

As far as I can tell support for J1939 sockets is not part of python-can (yet?), is there any plan to add this functionality?  It is something I would be interested in contributing to, but I am not sure if/how J1939 protocol support should fit into the python-can/socketCAN ecosystem, and would appreciate any thoughts on the subject.

Thank you,
David V.

I don't think it belongs into python-can, as was discussed here: https://github.com/hardbyte/python-can/issues/730
