I've just updated my babel3 fork at [1] to merge the latest upstream
changes (SVN rev. 662). All tests are passing on 2.7 and 3.2. The port
should work with Python 2.6, 2.7 and 3.2+ from a single codebase.

That's excellent news. Now how could we get this merged to the main
repository?

That depends on the upstream developers, but I'm not expecting
anything soon, since this port has been around for many months. The
changes are small but many, unfortunately, because of the high
reliance on doctests and presentation (e.g. a lot of changes were
necessary because Python 3 doesn't display Unicode with 'u' prefixes).
However, I have got the doctests to pass and didn't have to skip any.

I've now moved my repo to

https://bitbucket.org/babel3_developers/babel3

and I suppose those who are interested can contribute there. I don't
have a lot of time to spend on Babel, but I will probably merge
upstream changes periodically (perhaps quarterly or six-monthly) if no
one else offers to.
