I've been wanting to have an active Python Developers Group here
for a couple of years now and I think there finally enough python
developers to sustain such an effort so I'm quite excited about this.
Unlike Barcamp, I believe this needs to be a long-lived ongoing
organization with officers, sponsors, bylaws, and special purpose
committees like the thai I10N efforts for CPython & Django that we're
considering.

In 2007 I talked to Steve Holden and David Goodger of the Python
Software Foundation about my interest in this and they were very
supportive. I have no doubt that, if we show ourselves to be a
credible organization that can get things done, we can get sponsorship
directly from the PSF for our activities and make Thailand the center
of Python development activities in Asia.

I know that Kirit has Felspar supporting this effort and I want
Proteus Technologies behind it as well and expect other organizations
to join up later so we have everything we need except YOU - and your
friends! Officer-wise we will need, at minimum, a chair, secretary,
and treasurer. Futher positions will be created once we have someone
willing to fill them such as public relations, webmaster, speaker
coordinator, etc. Once we get enough interest to kick off one or more
of our special projects we will need leaders for those subcommittees.

Python groups I'm aware of have monthly meetings with a main
speaker who presents an interesting topic/demo of something python-
related and they are always great fun and directly relevant to our day
to day lives as developers - so we need lots of speakers ala BarCamp
for Python. This is what PyThai can be for us if we all simply pursue
the things that interest us individually within the context of this
group.

So please reply to this message stating what days of the month
would be best for you for a PyThai meeting and what role(s)/project(s)
you would like to play in such an organization. Then we can arrange
for our kick-off meeting and start making python a bigger and more
rewarding part of our lives.

When's your bedtime Sugree? :) Unfortunately we probably have to do
evenings because people have to get off work but we could do early
evenings. Alternative would be weekends but I doubt that would be a
feasible option.

Have to agree with Ben here, weekday evening is probably the only time that it will be feasible to get numbers of people to come along.

If we're having speakers and doing presentations we need the right sort of space to do that. I don't have any idea where might be good. Close to BTS/MRT, near center of town, probably need good internet connection.

We can certainly hold the initial meetings @ the Proteus Technologies offices which are close to the Ekamai BTS. See how that works until & unless we find a better spot.

I'm a Python developer in London and will hopefully becoming to BKK
permanently in the new year. Just wanted to say that it's great to see
a community forming and I would like to contribute, albeit from afar
at present :)
At the London meetups we usually have a few people give talks and then
some lightening talks, (5 mins or less). This is typically followed by
a few beers in a local pub.
