The remote engine uses TCP/IP to communicate with the serer.  Typically, and depending on the Windows version and security settings you are asked whether to allow the communication with the remote engine.  Do you get such a message?  Would this issue be due the the security settings of Windows?

I reinstalled Python and Pyscripter, and it works now. Could it have been that my version of python had an incompatible version of RPyC?

I don't think so, since PyScripter uses the bundled version of rpyc.
