Dana,

I use Verizon with a sierra wireless AC595 PC Card (note that this card actually has a usb device built-in) and ran into the very same issue last summer when I got started. What was frustrating was that I went through all the various timeout and other link parameters and never saw any change in the random termination of the link. A little research showed that the card was not properly supported by the built-in drivers (I had added the VID and PID as you had done, and when it started to work assumed that would be good enough). I gave up since I was not up for recompiling my own pyramid image, and started using an AIRLINK101 ($60 from fry's) device instead. A couple weeks ago I updated my soekris to use the latest pyramid distribution version (which appears to have the new sierra wireless driver) and initial testing showed the link remained solid continuously. In summary, check all the link parameters to make sure nothing is timing out and then make sure that the drivers you are using fully support the device you're using. Hope this helps, and good luck.

Thanks John.

I was actually able to get it up and running (mostly) by editing the
modules file and adding the USB hardware vendor and other IDs.

The problem that I'm running into now is that the link isn't stable.
Basically, it seems that a disconnect is sent by the remote side
(verizon) anywhere between 0 and 30 minutes after dial is initiated.
In the first case, the modem just fails to connect immediately, and
the dial scripts built into pyramid sleep and then try to reconnect
shortly. In the latter case, the link is established for some amount
of time, and after a bit of data is transmitted, the link is dropped.
After this, it very often is unable to reconnect to verizon's network
for a while.

Does anyone have any suggestions for how I should go about handling
this issue? If the cell modem link is unstable, the pyramid box is
really very little use as a cell modem based wireless router.

Hi Guys

I'm currently running pyramid 1.06 with a Kyocera KPC650 PCMCIA cell
card and am having the same problem. I also tried to use the same
solution, by specifying the vendor and product codes for the usbserial
module. The connection is forced to terminate by request of the peer
after 0-30 mins of use. Also after this remote disconnection happens
it will be spotty on the reconnect. Compared to an old pebble distro I
have that's rock solid I'm beginning to wonder if it's either an issue
with the version of the usbserial kernel module or the pppd build.

I'm currently trying to decide whether to debug this further and start
rebuilding packages or switch back to pebble and just hack wifiadmin
in with lighttpd and php.

Thoughts?
