dev distro

there used to be a section on how to configure a development
environment for pyramid. is that anywhere that can be reposted? i'm
trying to compile the newest release of madwifi as well as a small
data collection program and its my understanding that i'll need to
compile them on a dev machine and then copy the binaries over.
