Has anyone tried to use a Pantech UM175 usb modem to work on Pyramid?
I'm having trouble even finding documentation about how Pyramid does
cell modem configuration/use, so I don't even really know where to
start.

Thanks in advance for any pointers you might have!

Dana,

You will first need to compile the driver module if needed and load
it, then you will need to edit the scripts in /etc/ppp to set the ppp
network connection to the cellular network. You will need to set up
routing for the ppp interface.

Thanks John.

I was actually able to get it up and running (mostly) by editing the
modules file and adding the USB hardware vendor and other IDs.

The problem that I'm running into now is that the link isn't stable.
Basically, it seems that a disconnect is sent by the remote side
(verizon) anywhere between 0 and 30 minutes after dial is initiated.
In the first case, the modem just fails to connect immediately, and
the dial scripts built into pyramid sleep and then try to reconnect
shortly. In the latter case, the link is established for some amount
of time, and after a bit of data is transmitted, the link is dropped.
After this, it very often is unable to reconnect to verizon's network
for a while.

Does anyone have any suggestions for how I should go about handling
this issue? If the cell modem link is unstable, the pyramid box is
really very little use as a cell modem based wireless router.
