zooming in a large image displays blank

Hello,

I am making an application in which I have a large (4k x 4k) resolution pathology images. I would like to zoom in these images, but if I use a full resolution image then as I zoom in the image display goes blank. if I reduce the size to 1/3, then I am able to zoom in all the way.

Whats the best way to handle large images?
