Change colour of points in ROI zone (scatterplotitem)

I'm trying to figure out how to change the pen/brush/both of all points of a scatterplot within an ROI so that they become highlighted, and want them to be updated accordingly every time I change the ROI position or size.

I'm having trouble finding something in the documentation or via Google queries. So what is the idiomatic way to do this in pyqtgraph?

Or could someone at least nudge me in the right direction?
