Dear PyPSA users,

Do any of you know of any groups in China or outside of China using
PyPSA to model the Chinese electricity system?

I know of this example by Liu et al (2018):

https://arxiv.org/abs/1810.10347

I would be grateful for any other information or links to publications!

Best wishes,

Tom

Dear Professor Brown,

I am ZHANG Tuo, an Assistant Professor at the Graduate School of Economics, Kyoto University, working on research concerning the impacts of renewable energy integration into China's future power systems, using the PyPsa model.
Our team comprises four members. We have completed the primary data collection phase and have developed a model for China's power network, which is based on the electrical grids of Mainland China's 31 provinces. This approach was chosen because, in Mainland China, major grid construction and decision-making are primarily conducted at the provincial level. Hence, data on provincial power layouts, including hourly electricity consumption, inter-provincial grid connections, and demographic and economic statistics of the provinces, were relatively accessible.

We have initially completed the development of a model for China's power system from 2025 to 2060 and are currently fine-tuning the model parameters to ensure the results are as accurate as possible. Below is an illustration of our "pypsa-china" model.

Of course, throughout the modeling process, we have encountered some challenges, particularly with multi-horizon energy planning issues.
We would greatly appreciate the assistance and expertise of you and your team in addressing these issues.

Dear Tuo,

thank you for your reply. Regarding the mulit-horizon optimization, I would strongly recommend updating pypsa to the latest version, as we have recently encountered and fixed a bug in the constraint building.

Best wishes,

Fabian Hofmann
