Hello guys,

I wanted to ask about the storage unit. I intend to use it for a DSM load shifting in a network.

1) the marginal cost is the cost of charging or discharging or both? or is it simply the price of using the battery no matter which flow the power is going to?

2) how can I limit the active power in it? I'm quite lost in the optimization of the battery, what is optimized and what is fixed exactly ?

3) I saw in the discussion taht a store + 2 links can be used but I didn't quite get it, can you explain it a bit more? if there's a publication on it that would be helpful.

Thank you in advance.

Regards,
Anas

Hi Anas,

1) for storage units the marginal cost refers to the power dispatched.
More detailed modelling requires store + 2 links (see 3)

2) You can limit power with p_min_pu/p_max_pu just as with generators.
https://pypsa.readthedocs.io/en/latest/components.html#storage-unit If
you are confused about the signs, for your own understanding it helps
just trying it out. Extendable storage units optimise jointly power and
energy capacity with one variable as attribute max_hours fixes ratio
between them.

3) See example here:
https://pypsa.org/examples/replace-generator-storage-units-with-store.html

Best wishes,

Hello Fabian,

thanks for the quick response.

I didn't really get the "dispatch" term for the marginal cost, I tried to make a small process to get it, can you verify it (attached) ?

for the second question, basically I can limit the power that I can charge/discharge hourly but not the energy that is stored, correct?

Thanks,
Anas
