Hi!

I'm a Phd student who is learning how to use Pypsa for the first time and I have some doubts.

It is hard for me to understand the diference between the different foresights options. I want to develop an optimization model for the years 2030, 2040 and 2050 in a certain country using Pypsa-Eur, do I have to use the myopic approach? Are the other two options valid?

I don't understand also what do I have to put in snapshots if I want to develop a prospective model because for what I have noticed in many config files is used the year 2013.

If I have prospective data for the years that I want to optimize of the instaled power capacity of each technology, how can I implementent them in my model?

Kind regards,

Alicia Mortera

Hi Alicia,

I would recommend using the "myopic" foresight at the moment if you want to study pathways. The "overnight" would neglect, for 2040, infrastructure that was already built in 2030. The "perfect" foresight, we recently merged and is currently experimental.

For the weather data, we usually use 2013 as a reference, which is independent of the planning horizon.

Best wishes,
