HiGHS breakthrough - 15x PyPSA speed-ups with new open-source solvers

Hi everyone,

Back in 2021, we benchmarked the open-source HiGHS solver in energy system models like PyPSA and observed impressive performance compared to CBC and GLPK (see 2021 benchmark). Since then, improvements have been relatively incremental (see performance history).

At the end of last year, the HiGHS team released the new HiPO solver. We’ve now benchmarked it and are seeing up to 15x speed-ups. Exciting times!
