Hello everyone,

I am very new to PyPSA and to programming in general. I've been working with PyPSA-Eur, aiming to extract the Nordic grid for power system analysis. I've been referencing the "electricity only" tutorial but have encountered challenges running the tool on Windows, particularly after executing the snakemake configuration.

1. Can anyone guide me on extracting the Nordic grid or direct me to resources for the same?
2. Is there a recommended approach for obtaining data for the Nordic countries in PyPSA-Eur - use existing datasets or build the network anew?

Appreciate any insights you can provide!

Hi,

You can use the following line in the config.yaml to configure the countries to include:

https://github.com/PyPSA/pypsa-eur/blob/445892dd87003c81638527bdde106138cd4d8af5/config/config.default.yaml#L55

I would generally recommend rebuilding the networks, but there are pre-builts available on zenodo:

https://zenodo.org/record/7646728

For Windows, we recommend to use WSL (https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/wsl/install).

After running the tutorial, it can make sense to delete all output files:

snakemake -j1 purge

Best wishes,
