I've got a simulation that has been running non-stop for 2 weeks now. This is the longest any of my simulations has ever run, and my computer has not declared a lack of memory at some point and put an end to it before it provided results. I'm starting to wonder if what I'm running is not a model that for some reason will go on forever, so I'm curious, what are typically the longest simulations PyPSA users are able to run (and still obtain results)?

This depends on many aspects, but with a commercial solver, I have never waited more than a few days for a single optimization to finish. It's doubtful that the run will finish after more than two weeks.

Typically minutes, maximum a day for complex cases.

To add to Fabian's response:
You can also check the log of the solver you are using and see if it is still making any meaningful progress.
Sometimes the solver can get stuck making only insignificant improvements to the optimum while still not meeting the convergence limits configured.

In which case either check your model formulation or configured convergence limits.

Best,
Johannes
