Shadowhuntersis an American supernatural drama television series. The series is based on the book series The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare, and developed for television by Ed Decter. It premiered in North America on Freeform. In December 2015, Netflix acquired global rights to Shadowhunters, excluding the U.S., making the series available as an original series a day after the U.S. premiere.

In June 2018, Freeform canceled the series after three seasons, but ordered two extra episodes to properly conclude the series' story.[3][4] During the course of the series, 55 episodes of Shadowhunters aired over three seasons.

Before that though, I have spoken about the cast more or less each time I wrote a review of a season, so I am not going to do that now. Instead, here is a broad comment for each of them that I think is fair. The 1st season had left a bit to be desired looking back, but the work of the entire cast was outstanding and the emotions that they were able to display in this final set of episodes was great and a great send-off for both themselves and fans alike. This also set up careers for the likes of Alberto Rosende, Katherine McNamara, Matthew Daddario and Dominic Sherwood.

Oh the CGI, that I seem to have ripped apart in the beginning of the show (Due to the lack there of), improved so much as time went on! (Maybe they got an actual budget?) The visuals and effects used in this season were much more evident even in the opening scenes, it was the 1st thing I noted from this season! We have the use of magic which naturally takes up most of the effects in the show, but we have the runes, the scenes in general such as in Edem / Siberia and the swords that are apart of this season. When the swords are on screen they need to portray a certain look to them, be it black / white, good / evil, which is something that manage to do extremely well!

Description: The second season of Shadowhunters returns with the Shadow World in upheaval with Valentine and the Circle continuing to grow stronger by the minute and our gang quickly becoming disillusioned with the Clave and their reaction to the recent events. Loyalties will be tested, unlikely bonds will be made, and relationships will be pushed to the limit as the Shadowhunters and their Downworlder friends make their own way in a new world.

I know. I know. Hear me out. Magnus and Alec are one of my favorite couples on the show and in the books. What I love here is the amazing acting between Matthew Daddario and Harry Shum Jr. Their emotional connection is palpable. I felt the heartache and betrayal between these characters.

Alan Van Sprang who played Valentine finally won me over during this season. Most of season 1 I kept wishing they had convinced Jonathan Rhys Meyers to return to the role in the tv show after playing him in the movie adaptation.

Lynn loves reading, sometimes feels like her plants are too much of a commitment (they do need to be watered a lot), and uses WAY TOO MUCH emphasis and exclamation points (!!) when she writes. She spends her days working in an IT department and her evenings reading books, magazines, and way too many Buzzfeed posts. more? e-mail Lynn

He's been pining after her for two seasons and never made his move. And for the first time in a long while, he ends up on a date with a great woman on Shadowhunters Season 2 Episode 7. Maia (played by Alisha Wainwright) is a perfect catch.

Sure, Clary did look a bit jealous when she found out about Simon's date with Maia. We were teased that Maia would cause tension for this friendship. But that's just it, they're friends and incredibly close. Clary didn't know how to react.

They seem like the better pairing. They're both geeky, they like to watch sci-fi and supernatural films, and they can relate being Downworlders. Besides, Alisha Wainwright and Alberto Rosende have great chemistry together.

It's great seeing the show tackle the issue of Alec's virginity. They didn't initially just jump into things and get it over with. Though, Magnus seemed to be the one more considerate about the matter.

Jace has always been the conflicting yet caring Shadowhunter. He's tortured, but he's also selfless. I would hate to see his character become the type of person I actively avoid on Tinder. Aldertree cannot turn him into a player.

Their body language was closed off. Luke never looked happy to see his sister and she was indifferent to him. This was a nice touch as it provided the mood to explain their history. Though, we barely got scenes of them together.

There could've been plenty of moments to rekindle a friendship. We did get a scene of the two agreeing to work together to stop Valentine. It was a start and one that helped in the long run for the angel.

The angel was calling out to her and seeking her help. (The sound alone of the cries was painful to the ears!) Valentine may be Clary's father, but there must be another reason why the angel sought her out.

Kudos to the editing and special effects teams for the rooftop fight scene. The darkness of the thunderstorm, the glow of the rain water and the sword fighting worked perfectly well together for an action-packed moment. It didn't look cheesy or campy, but there was actual tension in the moment to save the angel.

The introduction of this weapon was pretty random. It was tacked onto the end of an episode that freed Jace from the City of Bones. We know it's dangerous, but nothing much else that isn't revealed in bits and pieces.

Shadowhunters returns for the second half of Season 2 with Shadowhunters and Downworlders reeling from what happened at the New York Institute in the winter finale. As the rift between the two sides grows larger, the team and their Downworld friends and lovers are put in the middle of the dangerous divide. Torn between the Clave's rules and what they feel is right, Clary, Jace, Alec and Isabelle struggle to help forge a new beginning. Relationships will be tested, a new Shadowhunter named Sebastian will join the fray and the Seelie Queen will step out of the shadows in the summer season.

Shortly before production began, Ed Decter "left" the series, supposedly over creative differences.[3][4] He was then replaced by Todd Slavkin and Darren Swimmer as the new showrunners and executive producers.[5] Some other parts of the production team, such as writers, crew members, and producers, also left.[4][6]

Filming began on August 8, 2016,[12] took a break in November, continued in January 23,[13][14] and is expected to end by May 2017.[15][16][17] The show premiered on January 2, 2017; divided into two parts, the season went on a winter break after its mid-season finale on March 6, and will return for the second half on June 5, 2017.

After escaping execution at Alicante -- thanks to a resurrected and then quickly un-resurrected Valentine (Alan Van Sprang) -- Clary (Katherine McNamara) found herself in a prison again all too soon, this time at the hands of Lillith (Anna Hopkins). Elsewhere Alec (Matthew Daddario) and Jace (Dominic Sherwood) had an epic showdown that resulted in Jace finally getting control of himself back from The Owl. The only catch? Magnus (Harry Shum Jr.) had to bargain away his magic to his father Asmodeus (Jack Yang) in order to pull that trick off.

In the final minutes, we got so many twists it was hard to keep track. Lillith successfully resurrected Jonathan only moments after she attacked Simon (Alberto Rosende) -- and you know what happens when you attack Simon thanks to his Mark of Cain. The attack blew back on Lillith, and the resulting explosion took out her, Clary and Jonathan. But are all three of them actually dead? We took all our burning finale questions to executive producers Todd Slavkin and Darren Swimmer.

First question: OMG is Clary dead?!

Todd Slavkin: You'll really have to tune in to [the second half of the season] for us to talk about what exactly is going on with Clary, but it's a really cool spin on the books, and a great tale is ahead for her

Obviously her friends all think she's dead. How are they going to react to what happened to her?

Darren Swimmer: Let's just say the first part of the first episode back, there's a lot of sad feelings going around for people.

Slavkin: But it's a beautiful way to celebrate her. It's cool because we don't really see what Clary means to everyone -- I mean we play it a lot with Jace and we hint -- but it's a way for all of them to reflect on who that 18-year-old kid was when she came in, in Season 1, and now she's gone. They really weigh that. It's done in a really kind of beautiful, poetic way. We tried not to be too maudlin, but it's emotional as hell.

How is Jace going to deal with everything he did as The Owl? Is he feeling guilty? Where is his head at?

Swimmer: Well, you can only imagine what he's going to go through considering what he's done. And Dom Sherwood has really brought some amazing performances to the table in the [second half of the season], and we will see him really struggling with the guilt and the sort of ramifications of what he did even as people try to convince him it wasn't him doing it.

Bringing back Valentine was such a huge thing for Clary to do, why did you guys decide to cap off the first half of Season 3 with his resurrection and re-death?

Slavkin: Well, it's a big shout-out to the books. In the book, she draws a rune that brings back the dead, and in the books it wasn't Valentine, it was a Shadowhunter soldier, and it was about solving a crime. We said, "How would it be if we do that homage to the book, but we use her freaking father?" The person that she killed is the one who can give her this vital information on how to find Lillith and take her down. It became like our version of The Walking Dead, in terms of bringing him back and what that entails. Matt Hastings, our executive producer, directed that episode, and it is a visual roller coaster full of such great action and poignancy and humor. The scope is really remarkable for TV.
