I submitted an issue on this as well.  I think we should consider whether their timeframe for transitioning works for us.

In our other thread, the sentiment appears to be to keep coercing numeric values to floats.  But that will limit our ability to build matrix and vector representations in pyomo.  For example, we'd have to coerce numpy vectors, which defeated the point.

Hence, I'm inclined to make this transition sooner than later.
