Thetrial version can be fully tested and is not limited.

With each start of the software you can choose whether you want to test the BASIC or the STUDIO edition.

Note: the demo version requires an internet connection.

The software may be installed and activated on 3 computers, but cannot be used at the same time. So you can install it on your main computer, a second copy on your notebook and for example on your computer in your studio.

set.a.light 3D primarily uses the capacity and memory of your graphics card in order to conduct the live-rendering process. For a smooth operation of the software, we recommend current graphics cards with a graphics memory of 1GB RAM or above. For more information check out the minimum system requirements.

The BASIC version can be an option for you, if you first want to get familiar with the software and see if it suits you or if you have no idea about lighting at all and are doing first steps with it. The Basic version has everything to create simple light setups (no permanent/film lights).

If you are very creative and/or also want to work with film and continuous light, then the STUDIO version is the best choice for you. In contrast to the Basic version, no functions are restricted here, there are many more possibilities to experiment and you can create complex setups and work on more extensive projects.

Your license is valid for a lifetime (no subscription). Updates are included FREE of charge. They contain enhancements, bug fixes and improvements to the software. Updates are delivered during the product lifecycle. If we release an upgrade at a later date, you can upgrade for a fee or simply continue working with your current version.

We`re happy to announce, that set.a.light 3D V2.5.5 is out! This Update is HUGE and brings new tools that extend your ability to create more complex lighting setups and creations, improves the handling of 3D objects and offers totally new combination options and much more.

This tube is not only popular among filmmakers, but also great for event lighting and creative photoshoots, as it is extremely versatile, wireless and works on battery power. As lots of you asked for this light, here it is! Now you can simulate your Titan Tube setups in set.a.light 3D.

We have listened carefully to your wishes for more lights in set.a.light 3D. What was asked most often has now made it into the new release. We`ve added Aputure LS C300D MKII (initially only available with reflector) and various KinoFlo Lights to the stock of permanent lights, which can be found in the studio library. Feel free to contact us if you have any specific requests. We appreciate your feedback very much.

With Alexandra and Kim two new lifelike avatars join the set.a.light 3D family. They are even more lifelike than the models so far and extremely versatile. Try it out and create your own unique character.

We have also added many new clothing options for all avatars with this update, to give you the possibility to customize the models according to your ideas. You will find for example new swimsuits, gloves, stockings, tights, but also new business outfits in the wardrobe. Here are some examples. For some clothes you can also change the texture. This expands the diversity again immensely.

Previously, the model could look straight ahead, or look into the camera. Now it is possible to control the viewing direction of the models individually. It is a small innovation but with a huge effect.

The pool of 3D objects has been expanded with a variety of new content. Discover new furniture pieces, a bike, curtains, accessoires and food items, that will make your setups even more complete and open up new possibilities.

We love seeing your incredible creations made in set.a.light 3D, whether they are freshly planned ideas and lighting setups for your next shooting, frame recreations of your favorite movie, lighting tutorials, that help other creators to grow or 3D art. For this, we integrated the community directly to set.a.light 3D. Just switch to the community in the top tab bar and start connecting with other setalighters. The latest update for set.a.light 3D includes two new light shapers, each available for flashes and speedlights: A snoot with 6 cm diameter and a background reflector. Both offer photographers new creative ways to shape their images.

The Snoot is a cylindrical light shaper that bundles the light into a directed and focused beam. Due to its narrow opening, the light is concentrated on a specific area and thus creates a very strong beam of light. The Snoot is ideal for portraits, for example, where a targeted light accent on specific areas of the face or body is desired.

The Background Reflector is another new light shaper specially designed to illuminate the background. Directed toward the background, it creates a slightly oval, elongated cone of light and a soft, even light. The person or subject in the foreground is protected from disturbing light reflections.

Best of all: Basic 3D knowledge is beneficial, but not absolutely necessary to use the 3D Importer. Please be sure to read our documentation before purchasing the add-on to learn everything you need to know.

Photographers working with artificial lighting are always asked about their setups, and sometimes they have a hard time explaining how they positioned their lights and light controlling objects. There is an easy way to explain it all: through lighting diagrams. Let me show you how to do it on your computer, iPhone or iPad.

You can always photograph the setup, which is a viable solution, but the best thing to do is to create a lighting diagram, which can be used in conjunction with the final photograph, to show the setup and the result.

Before personal computers entered into our lives, we had to keep all the nice or scribbled drawings of our lighting setups on pieces of paper, more or less filed in order. Those with a penchant for drawing would create some nice examples of their lights' position, while those who had a difficult time even drawing a circle went through sheet after sheet of paper, trying to create something others could understand.

With computers it became possible to scan those documents into files, making it easy to associate a digital photo with the diagram explaining it. Still, computers did not solve the problem of the scribbled diagrams. Those with access to tools like Adobe Photoshop would create some professional diagrams, even going to the extent of creating nice graphics of the different elements used in photo shoots. Very popular with the community is the Photoshop template created by photographer Kevin Kertz, distributed freely, which offers the essential elements for anyone to create lighting diagrams.

For some people, though, this is not the ideal solution. So Quoc-Huy Nguyen Dinh, a photographer and web developer based in Sydney, Australia, created the Online Lighting Diagram Creator in 2009, a tool allowing everyone to create their own lighting diagrams.

The Online Lighting Diagram Creator does not require an account to use. Simply visit the site, open up the creator, and start building your diagrams. When you're done, export a PNG, JPG, or URL to share.

The Online Lighting Diagram Creator is not the only tool of this type available online. Sylights is another online service that offers photographers the chance to create their own lighting diagrams. The system, which is similar to the one offered by OLDC, is free to use, but offers some extended functionalities for users creating accounts, like diagram editing, permalinks to your diagrams, online user profile and other features.

Although it seems to be an orphan these days, and the creator has not updated it for a long time, the Photo Diagrams Flash tool is still working, at least in its online version. The downloadable tool link seems to be broken. Still, the program allows users to quickly create a lighting diagram online, offering the essential elements of studio lighting to create multiple setups.

The program lets you light a portrait interactively with multiple lights and see their combined effect. Choose between simple bare strobes, ring lights or softboxes to model the mood of your portraits and find out what lighting equipment you need. With automatic or manual control of the lights on set, the program offers an infinite number of possibilities, including balancing ambient and artificial light. It is a unique learning tool for photography, painting, cinema or CG scene lighting... or just to have fun playing with it!
