Hi folks,

I'm working with a dataset containing over 30 million particle coordinates in xyz format, which I've already converted from a .txt file to .h5 format. My goal is to use a Friends-of-Friends (FOF) algorithm to identify halos and plot a halo mass function.

I understand some programs lack built-in halo finders and require external tools, which might not suit my workflow. I would like to know whether pynbody can directly apply the FOF algorithm to particle data like mine.

I would be very grateful for any advice or resources you could share to help me proceed with this analysis.

Thank you very much for your time and assistance.

Best regards,

I’m afraid pynbody does not have a built-in halo finder, FoF or otherwise. You need to run an external tool.

All the best,
