Installing vtk

Hello,

I am not sure if I am installing the correct vtk.  I went to http://www.vtk.org/download/ and downloaded the Standalone Python Interface (Installer).  This installed a vtk under the program files but still my Python doesn't detect it.  Should I install it from the source?

You shouldn't need to.  I use the Anaconda Python distribution.  It works very well and it's free.  https://store.continuum.io/cshop/anaconda/

I'd avoid building it if you can.
