New issue 132 by lem...@gmx.net: Seting Up PyMEL Autocompletion in Eclipse
- not working for me
http://code.google.com/p/pymel/issues/detail?id=132

What Version of Maya are you using? On what operating system? (Please be as
specific as possible and include service packs, 64bit vs 32bit, etc)
Tried 2009 SP1 (with WinXP and vista) and 2010 (winXP) - everything 32bit

What Version of PyMEL are you using?
0.9.2

Hi, i got a question regarding eclipse for pymel. pymel itself is working
fine in maya.

i followed:
- "Setting up pymel autocompletion in eclipse" on this site and
- "using eclipse as a maya IDE" on highend3d dozens of times each on two
PCs two OSs and two maya versions but it never works. there are some people
in the comments on highend that have difficulties as well and a friend of
mine also can't get it to work.

there are some differences in the tutorials and i setup eclipse in a lot of
combinations, but without success, so i would like to know:
- interpreter: python.exe (from normal python directory) or mayapy.exe
(from maya)?

- when addind system pythonpaths in the "interpreter python" options (after
creating the interpreter: python.exe or mayapy.exe) the tutorial sais to
add "...python25.zip" as well. i get more errors when debugging if i
include it ("Unable to find real location for: ...python25.zip\textwrap.py")
also in the tutorial it sais to only add "python25.zip", but on the picture
"...pydev../PySrc" is also activated, and because it is pydev anyway i
guess it should get activated as well? (i tried it with and without
anyways).

- Forced Builtins in one tutorial are:
pymel.api.allapi
pymel.core.animation ...
in the other tutorial:
pymel.core
pymel.ctx
..
which one to use?

note: there is a typo in the tutorial "pymel.core.nodetyeps"

i know that it is/seems really simple, but after spending a day and trying
all different possibilities i had to ask you, because the default python in
maya is so bad and pymel so aweseome and i want to use it.

i know questions like mine here are really annoying and should get avoided
with the tutorial, but it really does not work if i follow it 100% (also
setting up the environment variables etc) and i tried it on multiple OS and
Mayaversions, so if you dont want to answer me, maybe you can let two
people make the tutorial with your help and you add everything to the
tutorial you had to help them with. its really wierd i usually do not
require support for something like this.

Regards

As for your question above, do you have a problem with getting the External
Tools Run
As... functions in eclipse working? I can possibly help. First of all use
mayapy.exe. I can help if you have problems still.

I am having a similar issue with eclipse. I cannot get the auto-completion
to work
with reliable results. It doesn't auto suggest with python nodes or any
other
objects, only the most upper level classes and some expressions. I want to
auto-
complete "pymel.sph" with "pymel.sphere" for instance. I can
get "pymel.sqlength(a,
axis)" or "pymel.__path__" much easier.

it will be included with 1.0 which will be go into beta testing within the
week. here's
how it will work:

Thanks for the reply, and I will look forward to the new release. I
downloaded something off Area I
believe it was that is a pretty outstanding little js plugin for Eclipse to
use it as an IDE. Works great for
now.

I've tried pymel 1.0.0b2 with the new eclipse tutorial and I get all the
autocompletion except when I assign something to a new variable. So if I
have:
sphere = pm.sphere()[0]
and I write:
sphere.
I don't get anything. Is it normal? or I'm doing something wrong.
I've test it with wing too and works great in the wing's python shell but I
doesn't
in the file document.
Thanks!
