I’m trying to troubleshoot a login stalling problem that happens while
the screen saver authentication dialog is active. Someone else
mentioned using crankd to enable better troubleshooting or logging
under these conditions, so that I’m not forced to run remote debugging
or deeper logging all the time. I’m not sure if crankd can trigger an
action under the necessary condition, or if there is an underlying
trigger that could be used instead.
I haven’t ever set up crankd, as my primary need for it diminished
with improvements to DirectoryServices in Leopard. Therefore, I’m a
little behind the curve and trying to scale the wall, but the current
documentation and examples definitely seem to be more code than prose.
(Understandably.) I also didn’t find anything that caught my eye after
a few searches of the list archives.
Does anyone have any examples or steps that demonstrate how one might
use crankd to run an action when the screen saver authentication
dialog is activated or dismissed, if that is possible to do?
Thanks!
