Hi John, Andy,
We are debating to get a new vz-400i or just a vz-400. Any thoughts on the MTA of the new vz-400i and the possible changes this would require for pylidar and treeseg? My understanding from Riegl's reply is that MTA cannot be applied using the libraries..
Cheers,
Kim

Dear Hans,
Thank you for your reply.
With the VZ-400i you have to take some things into consideration
- The raw *.rxp file generated by the scanner can be processed with the latest RiVLIB Versions. Thus, if you update your scripts to the latest RiVLIB, this should not be that big problem
- The wfm file generated by the scanner can be processed with the latest RiWaveLIB Versions.
But, the VZ-400i is a MTA capable unit, meaning that the scanner is acquiring data in multiple MTA Zones. To resolve these MTA Zones, and have the points moved in the correct position we do not offer any tool, beside RiSCAN PRO or the automatic MTA resolution, in course of the Automatic Registration Feature on the scanner. This processing tools are now generating Riegl Database Files Version 2.0 (rdbx), introduced with RiSCN PRO 2.0. This new Database is replacing our version 1.0 (rdb)
To process these files, the RiDBLib has to be used instead of the RiVLIB.
You can download both libraries from our Members Area for free.
Alternatively, we can offer you a standard VZ-400, if requested. To a good price of course :)
With kind regards,
your RIEGL Support Team,
Michael

We were advised by our supplier that the higher scan speeds achieved with VZ400i are unlikely to work well in veg environments and had considerable teething problems.. his opinion was that the VZ400 was a safer/better choice after pushing him on the benefits between the two? But software may have been improved by now as that was ~6 months ago.. the open fan vents were also a concern for us.. we’d be very interested to hear if the extra dollars are worth it as ours will need updating at some stage..
