The weed-controlled device works by integrating cameras, computer vision, machine learning and robotics to make an intelligent sprayer which drives through fields to target and spray weeds, leaving the crops intact, working essentially the same way facial recognition technology operates. The program was shown thousands of pictures of weeds until it was able to recognize the difference between the weeds and crops. According to Blue River Technology, it would save up to 90% of what is currently used for herbicides.
As it is pulled through the fields, the cameras analyze each frame and produce a pixel-accurate map of where the crops and weeds are. Once the plants are all identified, each weed and crop is mapped to field locations, while the robot sprays only the weeds.
The Weed Free Forage program inspects forage or mulch before it is harvested to ensure there are no noxious weeds in the mulch or forage. The use of certified weed-free forage and mulch is intended to reduce the spread of weeds on public land or other areas where forage or mulch is used.
The chief technology officer helpfully laid out the three digital pillars of Facebook's effort to keep you from scoring drugs on its platform: keyword matching, computer vision, and "nearest neighbor manifold expansion." Some cannabis companies are paying influencers to spread the word about their topicals, edibles and other weed products. Others are working directly with publishers to use their social credibility or are creating fake pages to test what kind of ad content will fly. The result: These niche businesses are playing something of a cat-and-mouse game with Facebook and other platforms, seeing what they can get away with.

These creative workarounds are not unlike the shorthand cannabis enthusiasts employed throughout prohibition to communicate about weed with like-minded consumers. While there is no official weed emoji, those who partake have adopted the sprout, broccoli, tree and alembic emojis as symbols of flower, concentrates and other consumables. Despite corporate censorship, these reference points have even gotten baked into the subculture of prominent social media platforms, sometimes in surprising ways.
