Dear pyhf users,

As we approach the release of pyhf v0.6.0 we are strongly considering dropping support for Python 3.6 following the recommendations of NEP 29 — Recommend Python and NumPy version support as a community policy standard. NEP 29 is also the recommendation for all Scikit-HEP projects.

However, before we drop support for a Python 3 runtime we wanted to make sure this would not significantly affect any analyses using pyhf or libraries that have pyhf as a dependency. If you have any objections to this please get in contact with the pyhf dev team before January 29th, 2021 to let us know and so we can try to help you resolve any issues. Additionally, please feel free to comment on the relevant GitHub Issue: Drop Python 3.6 testing and support #1075.

(To be clear, this would only affect pyhf v0.6.0 and later releases, with all previous releases still installable with Python 3.6.)

Best,
The pyhf dev team (Lukas, Matthew, and Giordon)
