Dear all,

Feels strange sending an email here after so long.. For those of you who may not have seen the WhatsApp group, Kala ma'am was asking for the poems we wrote as a part of the module on bhakti poetry, which will be read out on 29th during the event for her new book. So do send your poems on this thread. :)

Thanks Shikha :)

Since it's pretty short, pasting it directly on email.

Treading on tender palm leaves,

I found my way to your bed of lilies.

Now under your soft, brown gaze,

drop by drop, they turn to roses.

Hello all,

Here is my poem:

Seeking What You Hide

I know,

that you can see the end of my colourful chunni

from where I hide.

But when it’s your turn,

you give me no clues.

As I run from pillar to pillar,

looking for you,

looking for you, I see her.

smiling, blushing,

her hands on your chest, exploring.

Didn’t you tell me that you hide well?

Thanks!

Hi,

I’ve written out mine below:

"He's a God, and you're clearly not. Don't be foolish, don't say such things."
I'm scolded for talking about you, for speaking the truth.
One minute you were taking the white and pink coloured rangoli and drawing floral patterns
on the threshold of my house,
the next minute you were off buying milk.
I ran behind you, braids bouncing,
pallu spinning in the wind.
But if only they would listen.

If only you had listened.

Three years hence and still no milk, still no you.
I talk to your idol under the jasmine tree,
hoping you will respond or return to me.
Every white petal that falls on me, reminds
me of your
gentle touches.
If only they would listen, maybe they wouldn't expect so much from me, but more from you.
Isn't it only fair?
I am a woman; powerless and mad; stuck
in your faded embraces; naked yet clad.

Thank you,
Nivedita Rao

Stay
Must you go?

Let’s build a home together
where you won’t have to leave at dawn,
(Do you imagine I cannot feel you,
slithering out of bed, from in-between the sheets?)
placing a pillow at my back,
Thinking it will not wake me.

Let’s raise a child,
(Will her tiny hands, clasped at your collar bone,
be harder to loosen
than mine, as you disentangle,
reassemble,
and leave?)

Maybe in her eyes,
I will see the plunging blackness of your eyes,
(after you are gone)
black like that rock in the ocean
where we perched that evening, laughing as we steadied ourselves
Against the tide.

Stay
Must you go?

Love to all,
Subha.
