Pydicom on Kaggle

There's a machine learning competition on Kaggle involving analysis of DICOM images for lung cancer detection. Note that at the bottom there's a list of helpful libraries and pydicom is one of them! More github stars, and maybe bug reports lol.

Hey, thanks for pointing to this, James.  I'd never heard of Kaggle, and that is a very interesting competition.  Hopefully someone comes up with a good solution for the lung cancer prediction, and if using pydicom, then all the better!

Actually I saw Kaggle mention pydicom 2 years ago during their Data Science bowl in 2015:


Just never thought to mention it to the group. Guess those data scientists (shout out to Roy) really like the library!

Yes. The first thing I thought of when I saw that Kaggle competition was whether they would have a link to pydicom.

It should be an interesting competition and all the best tools for it are in Python. I'd put my money on a winning solution using a deep neural network written in Python, probably using keras and pydicom.

Exciting times 😁
