Problem installing pip-win_1.7.exe

I'm trying to install pip-Win (for the purpose of running the program Flexget - I actually have no Python or scripting knowledge).

I ran pip-win_1.7.exe and it finished with the pip-Win GUI appearing onscreen but with the message "installation of setup tools failed".

For what it's worth, I wasn't behind a proxy at the time of running the .exe, and my firewall shows nothing was blocked. My Python installation is in the default folder (C:/Python27).

Is there anything I should try next? Does this make any sense?
