Price changes to an underlying asset usually cause price changes to their derivatives as well. For example, a call option represents the right to buy a certain stock for a certain price. If the underlying stock is priced $3 higher than the strike price, the option has a price of around $3. If the underlying falls below the strike price at the time of expiration, the option has a value of $0.

Shares can be underlying assets, if a derivative is structured around them. Shares are commonly used as the underlying asset for call and put options, which represent sophisticated bets on the future stock price. Shares can also be underlying for convertible debt, which can be converted to shares if certain conditions are met.

An out-of-the-money (OTM) option is the result of an asset's current market price being less attractive than the strike price. An option that expires out-of-the-money will cost the buyer their premium paid to enter the trade.

The trader is selling without the security of holding some ownership interest in the underlying instrument. It's generally not a recommended move for a trader who's new to the game. Losses can be significant.

Volatility is the up-and-down movement of a stock's price over a prescribed period. It can be historical and based on past fluctuations or it can be implied and effectively forecasted. It's not firm but rather an estimate that traders can and should use to gauge their best and most advantageous moves, particularly if they're dealing in naked options.

In finance, a foreign exchange option (commonly shortened to just FX option or currency option) is a derivative financial instrument that gives the right but not the obligation to exchange money denominated in one currency into another currency at a pre-agreed exchange rate on a specified date.[1] See Foreign exchange derivative.[2]

The foreign exchange options market is the deepest, largest and most liquid market for options of any kind. Most trading is over the counter (OTC) and is lightly regulated, but a fraction is traded on exchanges like the International Securities Exchange, Philadelphia Stock Exchange, or the Chicago Mercantile Exchange for options on futures contracts. The global market for exchange-traded currency options was notionally valued by the Bank for International Settlements at $158.3 trillion in 2005.[citation needed]

The difference between FX options and traditional options is that in the latter case the trade is to give an amount of money and receive the right to buy or sell a commodity, stock or other non-money asset. In FX options, the asset in question is also money, denominated in another currency.

Suppose a United Kingdom manufacturing firm expects to be paid US$100,000 for a piece of engineering equipment to be delivered in 90 days. If the GBP strengthens against the US$ over the next 90 days the UK firm loses money, as it will receive less GBP after converting the US$100,000 into GBP. However, if the GBP weakens against the US$, then the UK firm receives more GBP. This uncertainty exposes the firm to FX risk. Assuming that the cash flow is certain, the firm can enter into a forward contract to deliver the US$100,000 in 90 days time, in exchange for GBP at the current forward exchange rate. This forward contract is free, and, presuming the expected cash arrives, exactly matches the firm's exposure, perfectly hedging their FX risk.

If the cash flow is uncertain, a forward FX contract exposes the firm to FX risk in the opposite direction, in the case that the expected USD cash is not received, typically making an option a better choice.[citation needed]

The need for long-term care can arise suddenly, such as after a heart attack or stroke. More often, however, the need for long-term care develops gradually. People require more care as they get older and frailer or as a serious, ongoing illness or health condition gets worse.

Healthy habits can reduce the risk of many diseases and may help delay or prevent the need for long-term care. Good nutrition, regular physical activity, not smoking, and limited drinking of alcohol can help you stay healthy. So can an active social life, a safe home, and regular health care. Talk to your health care provider about your medical and family history and lifestyle. They may suggest actions you can take to improve your health.

Home-based care can also be supplemented by formal caregivers who are paid for their services. These caregivers include nurses, home health care aides, therapists, and other professionals. They can help older people with many aspects of health care, including giving medications, caring for wounds, helping with medical equipment, and providing physical therapy.

To find out what long-term care services are available in your area, visit the Eldercare Locator or call 800-677-1116. This service connects older Americans and their caregivers with trustworthy local support resources.

Your local Area Agency on Aging, local and state offices on aging or social services, or your tribal organization can also recommend services. These organizations will be familiar with resources available in your community and may have tips for accessing them.

Health care providers and social workers may also have suggestions. If you belong to a religious community, find out whether it offers services for older adults or ask for guidance from your pastor, rabbi, or other religious leader.

The best time to think about long-term care is before you need it. Planning for the possibility of long-term care gives you and your family time to learn about services available in your community and what they cost. It also allows you to make important decisions while you are still able.

To start the conversation, find out about the available housing options so you can discuss them together. Some families and caregivers find that a meeting or conference call is a good way to talk through the pros and cons of each option. The goal is to come up with a plan that works for everyone, especially the older person.

If a move becomes necessary, look for resources to help the person handle the transition. These may include counseling and support, guidance from health care professionals, and suggestions from your local senior center or Area Agency on Aging.

Long-term care can be expensive. How people pay for care depends on their financial situation, their eligibility for assistance programs, and the kinds of services they use. People often rely on a variety of payment sources, including:

Standard. Priority. Expedited. Express. Two-day. Next-day. Same-day. Now more than ever, ecommerce shipping options can seem as endless as the products available to online shoppers. One thing all shoppers can agree on, however, is that faster shipping is better.

For some retailers, expedited orders are considered premium shipping options, shipped with a 2- or next-day turnaround time, while for others, 2-day delivery is standard. Like all shipping options, the way these terms are positioned varies from store to store.

45% of shoppers have abandoned a cart because of unsatisfactory delivery options. When your customers check out, are there a variety of shipping options available, including affordable and fast options?

Offering an affordable expedited delivery option can help prevent shopping cart abandonment and increase conversions for your online store. Take ShipBob client My Calm Blanket, who added a 2-day shipping option at checkout:

On the other hand, 38% of shoppers are likely to never shop with a retailer again following a negative delivery experience, and negative reviews based on transit times or shipping charges are likely to dissuade would-be buyers.

For domestic deliveries, UPS offers a variety of expedited services and shipping options, including same-, next-, two-, and three-day shipping guarantees. All of these options are faster than the standard UPS Ground option which can take up to five business to deliver.

Because of how shipping zones work, the less distance a package has to travel, the faster and less expensive it will be to reach your customer. By distributing inventory to multiple fulfillment centers near your customers, you can reach more customers quickly with ground shipping.

Outsourcing shipping and fulfillment to a 3PL can help ecommerce businesses leverage shipping options, discounts, and technology not available to those who do fulfillment in-house. ShipBob is a 3PL that helps ecommerce merchants meet customer expectations around expedited orders and grow their business.

Merchants can also distribute their inventory to multiple ShipBob fulfillment centers that are closest to their end customers to further compete by reducing shipping costs and speed. This lets merchants offer their customers affordable expedited services, such as the 2-Day Express Shipping Program for Shopify merchants:

This directive enables operating system specific optimizations for a listening socket by the Protocol type. The basic premise is for the kernel to not send a socket to the server process until either data is received or an entire HTTP Request is buffered. Only FreeBSD's Accept Filters, Linux's more primitive TCP_DEFER_ACCEPT, and Windows' optimized AcceptEx() are currently supported.

The default protocol names are https for port 443 and http for all other ports. To specify that another protocol is being used with a listening port, add the protocol argument to the Listen directive.

The httpready accept filter buffers entire HTTP requests at the kernel level. Once an entire request is received, the kernel then sends it to the server. See the accf_http(9) man page for more details. Since HTTPS requests are encrypted, only the accf_data(9) filter is used.
