Are non-board members (like me) allowed to throw ideas in the air? Or
do you have enough of those already?

We'd love some venue ideas. We want to get on the ball with that NOW given the difficulty finding something available last year.

When I have some time later today I'll dig up the ones I looked at last year.

Yeah, we looked at the universities/colleges downtown. A lot of them were fully booked - we didn't start asking around until June, so we hope starting sooner help this time.

Some places we talked to or looked at last year include:

U of T
George Brown
Ryerson
OCAD
Toronto Reference Library
Japanese Canadian Cultural Centre - (ruled out as too far from downtown core though it's a great venue)
MaRS
CSI (it's too small though)
Underground Cinema (okay for large talks, but not for multi-track, tutorials, etc).
Drake (too small)

Linda had suggested these 2 and I think we had a quote from St. Andrews.

Ontario Bar Association Conference Centre

St. Andrew's Club & Conference Centre

Other options I didn't look into for the first PyCon Canada. Both are similar to the Polish veterans hall we had this year, but they have larger capacity.
- Lithuanian House, located near Freshbooks and steps from Dundas West station or the streetcar to downtown core.Tons and tons of food in the area.
- Estonian House, about a 10 min walk north of Broadview station.

OH another thing,

For PyCon NA, Tourism Montreal was simply amazing at helping us finding a venue and help us building the bid book and stuff like that. You might be surprised also at which point the city could help you if you told them that a lot of computer scientist from all around the world would come.

if i was you i would try to contact somebody like that:
