OK folks,
Concerning our PyCon APAC hosts for 2023: So this is what I think:
If possible, we would like to announce the next hosts by the time
PyCon APAC 2022 ends on 4th September, as requested by the PyCon TW
team. This is of course not a hard requirement since we can't force
anyone to decide on this, but it's something good to have.
I also find it helpful if we can have a host decided by then to remove
uncertainty for next year. I know it's difficult to predict how things
will pan out for this time next year, so a long runway will be best.
Anyway, this is how I think I would like to run the process this time:
Between now and until 31st of August 2022 23:59:59 AoE (The Deadline),
if your community is interested in hosting PyCon APAC 2023, please
inform this group. You do not need to send the usual formal proposal
documents at this point: All I would like to see is how many
communities have the intention to run it.
If we have more than one country that shows interest, then we will do
the formal proposal and voting after PyCon APAC 2022. Following last
year's timeline, we will accept formal proposals until the end of
Sept, and voting will commence at the start of November.
BUT, if we only have one country that shows interest by The Deadline,
then I would like to invite that country to be our hosts for PyCon
APAC 2023. We can then announce this during the closing of PyCon APAC
2022. In this case, we will not have any voting since we only have one
country interested. In this case, I would still like the new host to
send in their plan (their formal proposal) in the interest of
transparency, but it will only be a formality at that point.
So I hope to see a lot of interest in hosting 2023 from this group!
