I'm writing this at the venue for PyCon APAC 2025 in Manila 😀

As written on our Discord here, I've started a call for a proposal of a new regional conference name to replace "PyCon APAC". We plan to use the new conference name starting from 2026. If you folks are not on Discord, I'll just past verbatim what I wrote there:

```
PAO just signed up our first 2 Gold Sponsors, and we're getting a bunch of nice folks contributing through the GitHub Sponsors program so we're getting a bit of traction. We're supposed to get the website up but there is too much work going on at the same time, so that's not done yet. Unfortunately, we're already in March, so I think there's not much time left as mentioned here. I'm going ahead to source out for new conference names that don't use the trademark "PyCon". SO, if any of you folks here have an idea for a good name of the conference, just respond to this thread below with your suggestion (and your name alongside it, so we can easily copy paste your name with your suggestion) and we'll put it in a box for consideration and it might be on the voting ballot later. Timeline: We'll be accepting proposals for names until 15th of March, and then do a vote after that for two weeks, and then aim to have our new name announced on April 10 after our monthly call for PAO. So I'm hoping to get creative ideas from all the creative folks here!
```

If you're on Discord, it will be helpful if you can put in your suggestion on the same thread so we have everything in the same place. If not, you can just respond to this email thread and we'll try to pick up what we can.

I’ll start with the obvious one: PAC (pronounced pack), or Python Asia Conference.

This brings up a point for the name though—it should be immediately recognisable as Python related. While this is not as important for PAO (PSF isn’t a very recognisable abbreviation either—ask the Pacific Salmon Foundation about it), the conference name should ideally include “Py”.

For me "python Asia" makes the most sense but I recognise that a lot of people get stuck on the definition of Asia. I think this is because for au/NZ/USA Asia means east Asia (south east Asia + China/japan/Korea) but for many others it includes middle east and India etc.

For this reason maybe something less specific is better like ...

Python East.

I think it would be great to move away from any acronyms that need explaining and towards something more like "euro python"

Folks,

After waiting a few weeks, we've chosen 10 names and put out a vote to see which names all of you think will be appropriate for our regional conference going forward.
If you're interested, you can participate in the voting process on Discord here: https://discord.com/channels/904229032651030568/1349374798085619722/1349374798085619722
I've written a bit more description on this on the thread on Discord too.

Looking forward to see what you folks think!
