FWIW, "stockfish-2.2.2-1.mga3.i586.rpm" (Mageia Cauldron for i586) works
in Fedora 17

http://rpmfind.net/linux/rpm2html/search.php?query=stockfish

sudo ln -s /usr/games/stockfish /usr/bin/stockfish

Not sure where to put the opening book files, etc (rpm -ql stockfish)

well:

With Ubuntu 13.10 PyChess freezes in all kind of situations, both, the
latest stable release and the latest beta. Both worked with Ubuntu 12.04.

= Classic Shredder 4 Linux Install Problem =
I can get Shredder 3 to install, but the version I paid for is Shredder 4,
and I don't see to be able to get PyChess to see it. I have tried various
combinations of editing the xml file to include the name of the chess
engine, and the PATH variable to the directory holding the version 4
engine. No Joy. Any suggestions?

Just fixed a regression when adding new engines on engines dialog failed in
Revision: cb9ccb69d339
So you can add it using the latest sources from here:

Btw. ~/.config/pychess/engines.xml is deprecated, now PyChess stores
engines config data in ~/.config/pychess/engines.json file.
