Hello,

With the issues I have had with pyart crashing under python 2.7 and support was dropped in October 2018, I decided to go to python3. After installing anaconda python 3.7.1, I am unable to install pyart.

This is what I ran:
conda update conda
conda install -c conda-forge arm_pyart

I get no error and the terminal shows this:
Solving environment: rotating /

What am I doing wrong?

Hi Charanjit Pabla,

there is nothing wrong. The conda package solver just need some time to
get the packages right. This might take minutes.

What you want to do is create a dedicated environment:

conda create -n pyart_env -c conda-forge python=3.7
conda activate pyart_env
conda install -c conda-forge arm_pyart

If you install into the base environment you may experience clashes with
default channel and this might also influence the package resolve time.

HTH,
Kai

Great! Glad it worked.

Concerning cartopy, you just can try to install it with:

conda install -c conda-forge cartopy

and conda will find the latest possible version for you.

Kai

That worked -- thanks for the help. Now, should I install cartopy in the same environment? If so, which version?

Ok that installed just fine. However, I get a warning:

/home/cpabla/anaconda3/envs/pyart_env/lib/python3.6/site-packages/pyart/config.py:22: DeprecationWarning: the imp module is deprecated in favour of importlib; see the module's documentation for alternative uses
  import imp

I have looked up this and there are fixes but not sure which one is correct to choose. Has anyone else ran into this? How did you fix it?
