Hi!

My lab inherited a Bruker Tracer SD III and the laptop that was used with it. S1PXRF is installed. I'm primarily using it to train archaeology students so they gain practical understanding of the machine. I myself am a landscape archaeologist and don't do materials analysis, but I was trained to use it in grad school so I can at least help them with the basics.

It was purchased before I arrived at the university. As far as I understand, there are some standard calibration files that come with the software but I can't find them anywhere on the machine. Does anyone have a copy of S1PXRF and would be willing to share it? Or at the very least, the calibration files?

Thank you!

Hi Natalie,

I have a lot of older Tracer III files including the installation software (inherited from Bruce and Lee) . In terms of cal files, those are instrument specific and are stored apart from the instrument (no file storage on that model), hopefully on an existing computer. Computers were often sold with instruments back then preloaded with everything. If you do not have those files, you may not be able to recreate all of them. Bruker may have archived these files by instrument serial number. It is worth reaching out to them to investigate if they still have an archive. Each instrument is evaluated before being shipped to the customer. They may have a factory archive of this data. I even believe Bruce kept this archive to help customers. What is your serial number?

If you email me apart from the group, I can send you a link to the software (S1PXRF, X-ray Ops, and S1CalProcess) with instructions. The obsidian cal set is available and I can help recreate the Excel file for obsidian. The other cals (metals, etc.) are more difficult because they were done at the factory. Regardless of cals, you can still do count analysis and use it as a teaching tool.

Best,
-Lucas

Hi Natalie, Lucas,

Could you send the serial #? I can check to see if I have its calibration files.
