Hi all,

Rube Goldberg had nothing on me. On my new laptop I had my Tracer IIISD recognized by S1PXRF working on Windows XP within the PC emulator, Parallels 11 on a Mac running OSX 11 (El Capitan).

It worked beautifully until it didn't. The XP copy seemed to become corrupted and now my university refuses to allow me to use Windows XP. I could get around them but it does seem time to move on if possible.

Has anyone gotten their Tracer recognized through a virtual PC program like Parallels running Windows 10 or above?

The nut of the problem seems to be getting the COMM port recognized by S1PXRF.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hello
I do not have a good solution for this exact problem but when I was a phd student and having difficulties integrating an autosampler to my gcms and its software and I sought advice on a related forum someone resonded by asking if I had tried blu tak. I did not take them seriously at first but they said it worked for their HPLC. So after trying everything again and it still did not work properly I put s big gob of blu tak on the sampler and went home for the night. The next day I restarted the system ready for the good fight, but it just worked.  Why I do not know, elfs, angels, or little blue fairies with sticky hands or perhaps IT took pity on me. Whatever it was, a bit of blu tak and taking an IT tech out to the pub and explaining why I really needed to have it my way did the job. Try both.

Parallels has a feature for that as you know—being able to choose which OS devices are mapped to— and it seems to be working fine on my latest update. I’m running a Tracer IIIV+, OS Sierra, and Parallels 12, on an early 2015 MacBook Pro. When I upgraded last week from Windows 8 and Parallels 10 (which also worked fine), it took me a few minutes to get the COMM port recognized— it seemed slightly buggy at first— the mapping seemed to default back to Mac after I chose Windows at first, but within 5 minutes (with a client seated next to me waiting patiently) I had it working and it hasn’t acted up since.

Good luck!

Hi all,

I have had no trouble with any of the Tracer's software with Windows 10. As always, the limiting factor is with S1CalProcess and its' dependency on Microsoft Excel 2010 (32 bit) or earlier. While that software is compatible with Windows 10, availability can be a concern.

You can download the most up to date version of the Tracer's software here: https://www.dropbox.com/sh/h4ecw8hf9na56x7/AAD4G2i3WnZJUUg-Dd1Q9-7Ra?dl=0

I second Gawain's recommendation for Parallels 12 - it will prompt you whether you want to connect the USB device to the Windows or Mac portion. Choose Windows, and then go to Settings -> Devices -> Connected Devices to find which com port the serial cable is connected to.

Thanks,

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. In the end I was able to connect to the analyzer using the old Windows XP. So I'm leaving problems with Windows 10 for another day.
