Has anyone successfully used a MS Surface tablet with the Tracer 5g software?

I've been told by a company rep not to try to use it for our upcoming new installation and set up session.

Hi Dennis,

I don't have any help to offer in terms of using the 5g with a MS Surface, but I am curious whether the company rep told you why you shouldn't use it. We've been looking into possibly getting a new Tracer. I've been using a Surface Pro 7 with our 5i and if we got the 5g, that would be the computer I would need to use to collect the data. If the Surface is really an issue then I'd have to look at getting another laptop to use with the new Tracer.

best,
Vanessa

Hi all,

I am equally confused by this recommendation. As long as you have USB and WiFi, connection is possible to the Tracer with current software. You can even use WiFi to connect to a Mac with Artax using crossover.

I can see a scenario where the USB driver doesn’t work on specialized hardware (particularly if it is an ARM processor), but WiFi should work in practically all circumstances as long as you can install the software.

I agree with Lee,

I have used it with a surface pro with no problem.

Thanks all,

The Bruker rep does new 5g initial installations remotely and in that context he appears to want only typical/proven equipment, i.e., laptops or desktops, at the new users end for the initial install and instruction session.
I've gotten him to agree to do a preliminary test/install later this morning to prove the Surface Pro 7 can handle it before our installation/training session begins on Wednesday.

I think he is unfamiliar with the Surface Pro 7 and thinks of it as an iPad with limited connectability. The Surface Pro is essentially a laptop that can function as a tablet.

Thanks again (this group is great!)
