So, I'm sitting in a hotel room going crazy and thought, wouldn't it
be nice to go on an overnight hike/camping trek? Yeah, it would.
Unfortunately, due to scheduling conflicts and doctor's appointments
it's not possible until March. More specific, the week of Mar 23rd to
the 29th.
Now, I know most of you have regular jobs that require you to be at
work Monday thru Friday, so I'm proposing a hike the weekend of the
27th to the 29th (for those that can get out on a Friday).

This is not set in stone, I'm willing to go out the 28th instead of
the 27th. But, I would really really like to get out. And away.

Anyone game? No location set yet, but I'm looking at the LSHT right
now but am open to suggestions.

The only weekend I have open in the near/medium/far future is March
21st. :-(

Which would work for me, if I do not get sent to Angola for my
rotation and if I stay home, I do not get sent to anyplace else. That
being my last technical day on the roster and the 22nd being my first
day off. But, we both know how that can go.

But there is light, we just rehired a mechanic and that may take some
of the strain off of the rest of us.

As I said, this idea was/is not set in stone. Unfortunately, I may
have to postpone until the following break as I may have to have my
endoscopy done that Friday. From past experience with annawhatsername
and having the scope stuck down my throat, I won't be in a mood to
hike or camp the following day.

After I talk to the smart half of my marriage, I may reschedule for
this month, 28th/29th at the earliest. Otherwise, now looking at
sometime in April.

I work a 20 on, 10 off schedule, and psend most of that gone. Hence
the difficulties in arranging these things on my end.

Okay... procedure set for 27 Mar. So no camping that weekend. Apr 6th,
I start 3 weeks of vacation. My mom is coming down the 17th to help
out around the house while my wife attends night classes, so that
following weekend or the next weekend will be ideal for me. I'm
looking at 1, maybe 2 days/nights of hiking and camping and getting
away from it. Sam Houston National Forest has plenty of trails and
allows off trail camping (there are also a couple of primitive
sites).

You'll need some water, but as far as I know any water that we can
collect is drinkable. After filtering and boiling of course.

Hope some of you all can make it.

I'm pretty sure I can get free in April, especially since today's
little adventure will probably have me laid up for a while. The March
trip is probably going to be tabled. :-(
