uid Vs CN for the ldap entries

Is there a reason why we should use 
dn: cn=pwmadmin,ou=Users,dc=example,dc=com
instead of
dn: uid=pwmadmin,ou=Users,dc=example,dc=com

You should use whatever your directory uses as a valid DN.  You'll have to consult with your directory vendor / documentation, as this is not PWM specific.

Also, if the naming attribute your directory uses for users is indeed uid, you should be sure the setting LDAP -> LDAP Naming Attribute is also set to "uid".
