Greetings, friends and comrades,
These are dangerous times. The daily assaults on people of every background, in every corner of the country, require us to educate and defend ourselves. Social and economic attacks on low-income households are meant to frighten people, to erode (further) the welfare safety net, to divide the working class, and to help deliver greater wealth to the rich.
Each of us must do what we can to stand up against wrongful information and actions, and to learn from one another. MWRO intends to do its part by teaching what we know best: How to help poor and low-income people apply for government program benefits that they are eligible for and entitled to and challenge negative decisions.
Beginning Saturday, January 31st, we will hold a series of monthly training sessions on the last Saturday of each month. They will be held at our office on the 4th floor of Central United Methodist Church (23 E. Adams, Detroit, MI 48226) from 11am-1pm.
Trainings will focus on Michigan Dept. of Health and Human Services' programs and benefits, plus the Hearing process. Housing and Social Security Programs will be added later in the monthly series. Plus, guest speakers will be brought in occasionally to share additional information.
We invite you to join us and to bring your stories or experiences. A light lunch will be provided, along with free parking in the church lot (on Elizabeth St).
Please help us plan for materials and refreshments by emailing us, calling the office (313-964-0618), or registering online. Share this information with others too. Updates will be provided on Facebook and in monthly emails.
In solidarity,
MWRO Leadership and Staff
