Thought the group would like to know...EQT has scheduled vegetation maintenance on their right-of-way in PV Park between August 1st and October 15th.

Meeting to discuss herbicide spraying along a gas line at PV Park:

Thursday, July 18
7:00 PM
Pleasant Valley Park, parking lot area

In the meantime, does anyone want to volunteer to contact Murrysville and Schoeffler Energy to gather more info? If so, give a shout!

BTW, the next Murrysville Council meeting is scheduled for Wednesday, July 24. Murrysville's Parks and Recreation Commission already held their monthly meeting on July 9.

Some thoughts I had on the subject of spraying:

First Argument:
Potential Exposure to pedestrians: This is a park space, what can be
done to eliminate / minimize risk of exposure to humans?
• Perhaps the largest argument against any spraying is outlined in the
letter: Letter identifies buffer zones will be identified and placed
around water sources and streams, State and heavily traveled roads,
cultivated fields, pastures orchards and residences. The fact is that
the entire park is heavily traveled and occupied on a daily basis.
Does not that disqualify the entire spraying operation?
• Provide name and Material Safety Data Sheet of herbicide.
• Provide study showing herbicides affect on adjacent wildlife and
human exposure.
• Provide risk analysis on accidental exposure to human park participant.

Second Argument:
• Was there a field study conducted which determined the need for this
spraying or is this a scheduled maintenance activity? If field
observation was made, please provide report. What areas specifically
at PV park right of way need addressed? Are there alternative means
that woody growth could be removed? Hand removal?

Third Argument:
• Current application window is August 1st – Oct 15th, This window
of application is too wide and does not allow for park users to
anticipate and stay clear of spray path. Instead, select a one week
window which is communicated to the park users, a second notification
within 24 hours of spraying and a final notification when spraying is
complete.
• Spray administered needs to be performed by ground crew not by
helicopter. This limits overspray.

Future Discussion:
• In the future, how can PV park be protected from herbicide spraying?
Does it need to be classified as a green space, reserve, organic?
• What would it take for Allow PV Trail Volunteers to maintain right of way?
