OK Folks, Great Spring, I hope you’ve had a chance to enjoy PV park. Anyone notice things are growing?  I want to appeal the small voice inside that enjoys the park and wants to participate in the effort to make it a great place to be in this summer.  If we come together as a community in June, then the park will be exactly that:  A great summer resource to hike and bike. Typically, July - October we are dry so cutting the trails back at this time will cover us through the summer months.

I'd like to propose 4 trail Sunday trimming days in the month of June.   Sunday Evenings 4 - 6 pm.   June 3,10,17,24.  If you cannot make these times and dates, please schedule some free time to do your part.

The work consists of two primary objectives:

Line Trimming - Bring your own line trimmer, fuel, spare line, water.  We will split up into small groups and the worst sections first. Most of this cutting is a variety of grasses and Multi-flora rose.    By July1, all will be cut.

Puddle management and trail resurfacing, in the spring a rich deposit of dark top soil has eroded into the trail surface, sometimes this dirt keeps flowing downhill, sometimes puddles and valleys form on the trail.  With tools provided by the municipality will walk the trails and resurface as needed.  Some of this can occur in parallel with the line trimming.

If there is time a major dig should be considered on Hemlock.

Clothing: Did you that Pennsylvania has the highest tick population in the USA?  Be sure to wear long pants, long sleeves, sturdy shoes, boots and something on your head.  Carry water and gloves should also be considered.  Long sleeves do not need to be hot, think long sleeve sun protective shirt.

This information is being posted here, and on the Murrysville Cycling group:  https://www.facebook.com/groups/145014395515619/

Looking forward to working with you all, groups are encouraged to attend, this includes social, scouts, church and service groups.  The word ‘community’ was used earlier, these work events should be enriching beyond the betterment of the park.

Hope to see you soon.   Mike

Mike,

We need to talk, I have a proposal for you on that larger project. I will be there for a few of those Sundays. I am currently in Alaska.
