happy new (school) year!

Dear singers,

I hope you all had a wonderful summer and that the beginning of the school year has brought a smooth transition back to that old familiar rhythm.

But what of Song Circle?  I've spoken with a couple people who are interested in continuing, but wanted to put the question to the group.

The new music teacher is in support of it, and it seems we would be able to continue to use the music room - though Paul Berg has not responded to my request for such.  I would hope that if he knew there were other interested community members he would support it as well.

What say you?  Do you want to continue to have a weekly opportunity to sing?  Does Monday after school still work for you or is there another day time we could try?  I am happy to commit to another year (and more) if we have enough interest.

Ps- there are, of course, other opportunities to sing on a weekly basis: The Portland Peace Choir, of which I am the new director, meets on Wednesday evenings from 7-9p; and the Portland Waldorf School Community Choir is continuing, though they are also going through a transition (which might result in me directing that group, as well) - I'll send an update when the dust settles. :D

We would love to, but since Rose is now attending Odyssey, it would be a logistic headache to get to PVS.

I would like to continue... but not until January. : (  Lily has soccer on Mondays and I'm coaching this year so I have to be there.  Practice is at 4pm.  Boo.

well, finding a new venue might be necessary, as Mr. Masi announced Thursday that he now has plans for after-school offerings on Monday, Tuesday & Wednesday (even though he told me two weeks ago that he was in support of Song Circle continuing in the music room Mondays)

For sunny days, I like the spot by the kindergarten play yard. For rainy days, perhaps upstairs in the upper building where we did a few circles before? Definitely less stuffy than the music room and there are windows, but I don't know if finding chairs would be an issue, or if there are other issues with using that space? Or perhaps we could ask a teacher to use their classroom? My other thought was a coffee shop near the school, perhaps, if there are any that wouldn't mind some singing going on...perhaps we could pitch it that a song circle would attract customers? Or a nearby church or community center?

There might be rooms available in community centers like Columbia and Peninsula parks.

How about covered areas in nearby parks on rainy days, like the gazebo in Peninsula Park, or other canopied park spaces?
