Dear NumFOCUS Community,

We are excited to announce the first community election for the NumFOCUS Board of Directors! This is an opportunity to help steer the direction of NumFOCUS and contribute to the growth and success of the open science and open source community.

There are 10 open positions in this election, and the nomination process is now open. You can nominate yourself or a community member you believe will be a valuable member of the Board by filling out this Nomination Form by June 28, 2024.

About the NumFOCUS Board of Directors

For the first time, NumFOCUS’s governance at the board level will consist of a Technical Steering Committee composed of project leaders serving alongside an Administrative Board. The new model ensures projects have a voice in crucial governance decisions. Their community experience and understanding of project needs will lead new project selection, guide committee oversight, and influence budgets and strategic directions. The Administrative Board will ensure financial health, strategic growth, and legal compliance. Their experience in and knowledge of business practices and administration will support internal operations, guide oversight of leadership and relevant committees, and define a mission-driven strategic direction.

Additional responsibilities of both bodies are documented in the Elections Repository.

Who can you nominate?

Any member of the NumFOCUS community with the time, interest, and dedication to serve can be nominated or self-nominated. We welcome and encourage participation from people of all backgrounds, identities, and geographic diversity.

Most meetings are held online, except the annual board retreat (planning sessions may be online) and the NumFOCUS Project Summit. Members should be able to donate ~5 hours/month and serve a two-year term minimum. These are unpaid volunteer positions.

Nominees for the Technical Steering Committee should be contributors or members of a NumFOCUS Sponsored or Affiliated Project community. They should have experience in areas such as governance or community leadership, budget creation and management, infrastructure, and strategic planning.

Nominees for the Administrative Board should be members of the NumFOCUS community with experience in one or more of the following areas: organizational or corporate finance, strategic planning, legal oversight, or marketing and sales.

How to nominate

You can nominate yourself or someone you believe would be an asset to the NumFOCUS Board by filling out the Nomination Form. The Election committee will reach out to nominated individuals to confirm their nominations.

Nomination Deadline: June 28, 2024
