Back to school...
The Kids went back to school this month. We thought that it might affect how many would come in the mornings, but it didn't slow down at all. The only difference is that they come in their uniforms as seen in the picture. We've been trying to help families with school supplies and uniforms. Just like our schools, the kids come home with a long list of things they need.
You'll notice pictures and letters on the bulletin board. The kids love getting letters. Send one along with a picture of yourself and we'll post it for all the kids to read. |
Arianna and Armando
You may remember that a few months ago we told you about how their house burnt down...
Here's an update: While they were at the Church getting food and clothing, a visiting Pastor over heard the story and took them to the store to buy some household items. While in the store, they ran into the Pastor's construction leader. That same day, they began working on rebuilding a small house complete with a window and door. And the Door of Faith Orphanage donated three mattresses so they would'nt have to sleep on the ground.
Since that time, we have been praying that Mom would at least come visit the breakfast club once in awhile with the kids who come most every morning. All of a sudden, this past week, Mom has been showing up with the kids. She seems to feel comfortable being there and even started helping to clean the dinning room after breakfast.
The other prayers for the family have been about Arianna and Armando being in school. They have been out for at least the past year. This has been an on-going issue for the family and Mom has been reluctant to do anything even when help has been offered. Today, another small miracle. We found out that she has both enrolled in school. She didn't announce it to us or ask for help. We took the kids to the store today so they could buy uniforms. You can't believe how excited they were to be able to dress like the other children. What an awesome event! Next we're going to work on getting them the school supplies they need.

Maria is back!
You may remember the story of Maria Delores. She is 15 and has a son who turns 1 next month. She had been coming for a few months early in the year but stopped shortly after getting pregnant. She moved in with her boyfriend for awhile, but moved back to the Canyon to live with her grandfather again. Maria has not been in school for a few years and has limited opportunities. So we are really happy to see her back. At first, it was only about once a week and you could tell she was anxious about being here. We gave her a lot of space hoping that she would get comfortable again. Today, we see her much more often.
Since she is turning 16 at the end of the month, we will celebrate both of their birthdays in the near future. Baking cakes for their birthdays is another added event of the Breakfast Club. |
